Hunter Institute
TAFE NSW – Hunter Institute is located in the Hunter River Valley area of New South Wales. Hunter Institute graduates are high achievers and regular winners of national awards. The Institute has 15 colleges, an annual enrolment of over 50,000 local and international students, and 2,500 qualified teachers and support staff.
The main campus in Newcastle is two hours north of Sydney by car or train. The Central Coast campuses of Gosford and Ourimbah are an hour by train or car from the centre of Sydney. Ourimbah campus is a joint campus with the renowned University of Newcastle. The region is an educational centre with a range of schools, colleges and the University of Newcastle. Hunter Institute has special articulation arrangements with the University of Newcastle.

Living in the Hunter area
Newcastle is a lively city with an active port and is situated on a breathtaking stretch of coastline. It has wonderful beaches, a casual lifestyle and a safe environment in which to study.
The Hunter Valley area is a world famous wine growing district and a popular tourist destination with many five-star resorts, hotels, bed-and-breakfast cottages and excellent restaurants.
Each semester, Hunter Institute offers a free course to new international students called Responsible Service of Alcohol. This qualification provides students with skills and a qualification to apply for part-time work in restaurants, cafes and hotels.

- Cosmin Dan from Romania received the highest marks in New South Wales for Electrical Engineering
- Louise Smit from South Africa, a graduate of Viticulture and Wine Production, is now assistant wine maker at an upper Hunter Valley winery
- Matthew Vos from Canada completed the Diploma of Hospitality Management and has been sponsored as an employee at Bistro Moncur Restaurant in Sydney
- Gregorio de Souza from Brazil completed Certificate 3 in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) and is currently employed by Skratchelys Restaurant in Newcastle
