Equipment, Libraries and Support

Equipment

TAFE NSW colleges use up-to-date, industry-standard equipment and students develop workplace skills in practical workshops.

In some courses, teaching takes places in real workplaces (for example, restaurants or hair and beauty salons), or in simulated workplaces (for example, applied science laboratories).

Libraries

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

TAFE NSW will consider recognising previously completed studies that are related to the TAFE NSW course you are doing. This is known as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

RPL may allow you to finish your course more quickly.

To be considered for RPL, you must provide documents that give details of your previous studies. You provide these documents when you send your application. These documents may include:

  • Academic transcripts
  • Formal qualifications
  • Official descriptions of the courses you have studied; for example, from a college handbook

DEC International Students Centre lets you know the result of your application within 2–3 weeks.

If you are unable to provide these documents with your application, you can provide them after you enrol and start your course.

Please note:

  • If you are granted RPL after you have started your course, and the RPL reduces the length of your course, this may also affect the length of your student visa.
  • Under current regulations, if you are granted RPL for certain units of study within a semester, you may still be required to undertake a full-time study load.
