TAFE NSW English Language Centres offer a wide range of English courses that provide specific language skills preparation.
English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
- Full-time preparation course for further studies at Australian tertiary institutions
- Focuses on academic writing, listening and note taking, reading comprehension, academic speech (for oral presentations and seminars) and integrated study skills
- Also includes grammar, English for social purposes, vocabulary, pronunciation and computer literacy
- Direct entry to some universities
- Available at Ultimo (Sydney Institute), Kingscliff (North Coast Institute), Port Macquarie (North Coast Institute) and Newcastle (Hunter Institute)
IELTS preparation
- Develops language skills and prepares for the IELTS test
Cambridge examination course
- Certificate of Proficiency (CPE)
- Certificate of Advanced English (CAE)
- First Certificate (FCE)
- Business English Certificate (BEC)
- Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) Preparation is offered as part of the 10 week BEC courses
- Available at Newcastle (Hunter Institute) only
Special programs, short courses and study tours
For professionals, study tour groups, young people on a working holiday and students on a visitor visa, courses include:
- English for Aircraft Maintenance
- English Language Skills for the Health Care Profession
- Occupational English Test (OET) Preparation
- English for business, media studies and Australian life
- General English (ESOL)
- Cambridge examination courses (maximum 12 weeks full or part-time)

- A$360 per student per week (20 weeks or less)
- A$340 (more than 20 weeks)
- A$350 (package fee with NSW Government High School program)
English for High School Preparation
Students aged 15 years or older can develop skills needed to study successfully in an Australian high school.
Students study English language for key high school subjects as well as developing English competency through a study of themes relating to Australian culture and way of life. Students are also introduced to the Australian school system, teaching methods and learning practices.
Successful completion of this program ensures direct entry to a NSW government high school or TAFE NSW Tertiary Preparation Certificate course. Courses commence every five weeks.
Available at Ultimo (Sydney Institute), Liverpool (South Western Sydney Institute), Crows Nest (Northern Sydney Institute) and Newcastle (Hunter Institute).
