How to Apply for Courses

Below are seven steps you should follow to submit an application:

  1. Choose a course and campus
  2. Prepare certified copies of your documents
  3. Complete and submit the application
  4. Letter of Offer
  5. Confirmation of Enrolment (eCOE)
  6. Apply for a student visa
  7. Make travel arrangements

1. Choose a course and campus

  • Select a course that suits your career goals and interests.
  • Before selecting a course check the entry requirements, fees and refund policy.
Make sure that your academic results and English level meet the entry requirements for your selected course.
    • Some courses have a prerequisite (previous course) as an entry requirement. If you do not meet the academic requirements, you might like to consider a lower level course (for example, a Certificate course instead of a Diploma course).
    • If you do not meet the English competency requirements, you can choose to study intensive English at a TAFE NSW English Language Centre before you start your course.
  • Select a TAFE NSW campus where you wish to study from the list of course locations.
  • If you intend to use an agent arrange an appointment with one of their student counsellors.

2. Prepare certified copies of your documents

  • Academic results and educational certificates (translated into English)
  • English language test score
  • Birth certificate or government document with date of birth
  • Passport pages with your details, if available
  • Documents for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), if applicable
  • Work experience reports, if available

A 'certified copy' is a copy of the original document signed and dated by the organisation that issued the original document, a government official, Public Notary or Justice of the Peace, confirming that they have sighted the original.

3. Complete and submit the application

  • Fill out and sign the application form. Be sure you read and understand the Terms and Conditions. If you are under 18 years of age, your application form must also be signed by your parent or guardian.
  • Attach certified copies of your documents e.g. academic results, English language test score and other required documents (refer to the checklist on the application form).
  • Submit your application online, with your agent, or post your application form and supporting documents to the DEC International Students Centre (make a copy for your own records first).

4. Letter of Offer

If your are offered a place in an English (ELICOS) and/or TAFE NSW course, a Letter of Offer will be sent to you. You will need to read the Terms and Conditions carefully and follow the instructions in the letter before paying your tuition and health cover fees.
Be patient. It will take us a few days or sometimes up to a week in busy periods after we receive your application to process it and respond to you.

Tuition fees must be paid in Australian dollars:

  • By credit card (Visa or MasterCard) or
  • At a Westpac Bank in Australia by cash or cheque or
  • At any Australia Post office by cash, cheque or credit card or
  • Via BPAY in Australia or
  • By bank draft/bank cheque made payable to TAFE NSW

TAFE NSW will not be held responsible for any monies paid to an agent.

5. Confirmation of Enrolment (eCOE)

When all documents have been received at DEC International Students Centre and your tuition fee payment is accepted, we will email you or your agent an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCOE). This is required for your student visa application.

6. Apply for a student visa

Submit your student visa application to the nearest Australian Embassy or Australian High Commission in your country. Go to DIAC website for more details.

7. Make travel arrangements

Organise flight bookings, airport pick up and accommodation in advance. Try to arrive in Australia at least one week before your course starts to give you time to settle in and attend the Orientation Seminar at your TAFE NSW Institute.
