New TAFE course for international students
available from July 2009 intake
This course is for people who want to work in the electronic equipment trades profession. Students learn how to select, install, set up, test, fault-find, repair and maintain electrical systems, equipment and devices. Students in this Diploma course will also gain the Certificate 3 in Electronics and Communications.

Students who attain this qualification can work as an electronic equipment tradesperson/technician involved in the installation, setup, maintenance, and repair of a broad range of electronic equipment.Specific areas include but are not limited to: consumer and professional audio and video equipment, communications equipment, electronic security, computer hardware, entertainment/amusement machines, and office/business machines.

What will students learn from the course?
Students will learn how to select, install, set up, test, fault-find, and repair and maintain.
They will also be involved in the design and prototyping of electronic systems, equipment and devices.
Note: This course is not for Electrical Tradespeople who work with mains electrical wiring in houses and other buildings, lighting systems, electric motors, and lifts. Electrical Trades is a licensed industry and is not covered in this course.

Is there a work placement included?
There is a 144 hour work placement unit within the course and will be offered at all campuses.

Is the Certificate 3 course included?
Students will be able to complete the Certificate 3 units and be eligible for the Certificate 3 qualification.

Is it a high demand course for migration purposes?
Yes. The course aligns with the occupation of Electronics equipment tradesperson on the Department of Immigration and Citizenship’s Critical Skills List.
