Teodorico Aquino - Philippines
Diploma of Hospitality Management
Teodorico Aquino was attracted to TAFE NSW because of its good reputation and the opportunities it provided to advance his career in hospitality management. It didn’t take him long to decide to enrol at TAFE NSW – Western Sydney Institute, Nepean College, where he has recently earned a Diploma of Hospitality Management.
TAFE NSW, the largest education and training provider in Australia, offers over 1,200 practical, work-oriented training courses in over 130 campus locations in Sydney and New South Wales. TAFE NSW – Western Sydney Institute has seven campus locations in Sydney and international students from more than 30 countries.
The western Sydney area, where Teodorico studied a few days a week, spreads from the north-western Baulkham Hills district to the beautiful World Heritage Blue Mountains. This area is also incredibly diverse and includes communities from the Philippines, India, Fiji, China, Sri Lanka, and Africa.
Teodorico and his classmates are taught by highly-qualified and skilled teachers to achieve valuable qualifications with government guaranteed quality. Teodorico agrees that both the teachers and the facilities available on campus were an important part of his experience at TAFE NSW.
“All my teachers have been very friendly and accommodating in responding to questions and inquiries I may have about class material,” he said. “The facilities were also very modern. I was especially impressed with the Patama Garang Restaurant where we practiced our cooking skills for customers.”
Teodorico’s favourite part about studying at TAFE NSW was the practical, hands-on learning approach.
“Studying at TAFE NSW allowed me to gain practical experience in the classroom,” he said. “This helped me a lot in making the transition from the school setting to the actual work setting.”
Today, Teodorico enjoys working as a full-time cook at a restaurant called the Village Hotel in Sydney.
