"I had finished high school and passed the university entrance examination in China, but then I came to Sydney on holiday and loved it! So I decided to come here and study. The weather here is lovely, the city's beautiful and the people are friendly – I just feel good here.
I heard that the Surveying Course at TAFE NSW was the best one and now I can work anywhere in the world. I know other students who are working in the UK, the USA – everywhere.
My English has really improved! On my first day, I didn't understand a thing. After 2 weeks, I felt much more comfortable and now people say I have an Australian accent! There were only 2 international students in my course, so I didn't have any chance to speak Chinese. My classmates are really great and we worked together well – they helped me a lot.
The best thing is that we study 3 days a week and can be in the workplace the rest of the time. This really helped me to decide which direction to take my career in because I really understood what it was like to work. Fieldwork was also part of the course and this is where we could use our knowledge. I really liked studying at TAFE NSW – Sydney Institute – the teachers helped me a lot.
Now I've finished my course but I'm going to keep working here. I work at a company called Usher Co and my boss is an ex-TAFE student – my teachers still remember him. The company is going to sponsor me to stay in Australia!"
