Hye Jin Kim - Korea
Certificate 4 in Applied Fashion Design and Technology
Hye Jin Kim, from Seoul, studied Applied Fashion Design and Technology at TAFE NSW – Sydney Institute, Ultimo College.
“I chose this course because I wanted to gain more practical skills. I knew someone who previously did the course and they recommended it.”
“Because English is my second language I didn’t always understand everything straight away, but everyone supported me to gain my knowledge. All my teachers were really professional and have great skills and knowledge; they always encouraged me and gave me direction for improvement. They would remind me I was talented and helped me become a disciplined designer and creator,” said Hye Jin.
Hye Jin gained first place in her field of studies for both Sydney Institute and across NSW. She also won two important awards for her work:
- The Ultimo College Achievement award – a Sydney Institute award
- The Grand Prize at the Textile Institute National Awards in Melbourne which included four weeks tuition and accommodation at the Fashion Summer School in Paris. Hye Jin’s winning entry was judged the best of 140 entries from colleges and universities across Australia.
“Studying fashion technology has given me the practical skills needed for the industry. I know far more than just theory; I can now design a garment and then see it through to the finish,” said Hye Jin.
“Over the next few years I want to travel and absorb the cultures of the world. The fashion technology industry is tough and demanding, but it is my dream to start my own label within the next 10 years,” said Hye Jin.
