Temporary Residents

The Temporary Residents Program allows eligible students with temporary resident visas to study in a NSW government school (Kindergarten to Year 12).


 
 
 

Who can enter the Temporary Residents Program?

The Temporary Residents Program is for:
  • Visitor visa holders
  • Dependents of international students
  • Bridging visa holders
  • Other temporary resident visa holders

Who cannot enter the Temporary Residents Program?

The Temporary Resident Program is not for:
  • Groups of students who attend New South Wales schools on an advertised tour
  • Students who enrol in NSW government schools on an international student visa (subclass 571)

What is the Visitor Visa Program?

The Visitor Visa Program is for visitors to Australia who want their children to study at a NSW government school while they are in Australia.

How do children qualify to enrol as a Visitor Visa holder?

The Visitor Visa Program is for visitors to Australia who want their children to study at a NSW government school while they are in Australia.
In order to qualify, children must:
  • Hold a visitor visa to Australia
  • Be accompanied by their parents, or be staying with direct relatives who live in Australia:
    • Grandparents
    • Aunts
    • Uncles
    • Older brothers and sisters

Can groups of students enter the Temporary Residents Program?

No. Groups of students who wish to attend a NSW government school must apply through either the Study Tour Program or the International Students Program.

Which visas qualify for the Temporary Residents Program?

How to Apply

To apply for enrolment, follow these steps:

Please note: It is expected that a parent will live with a student who is under 18 years of age during their enrolment. If the student is not living with a parent, and you want the student to live with a Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC)-approved relative, complete the Guardian/Carer Nomination Form and submit it with your application form.
