General Study Tours - Students

General Study Tours are available through NSW government schools and provide visiting students with opportunities to:

• learn with Australian students in regular classes
• participate in subjects that may include Sport, Health, Science, Music, Drama, Art, Social Sciences, Cooking, Woodwork and Environmental Studies
• join in classes of English and other languages e.g. Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Indonesian, French, German or Italian.

All classes are enjoyable and interactive with practical experiences and classroom work.

Inclusions

• welcome ceremony including assembly with local students and a formal address by the school principal
• morning or afternoon tea with a ‘buddy’ - an Australian student of a similar age as the visiting student
• participation in classes with Australian students
• participation in the host school’s curriculum
• lunch (full day programs)
• excursion entry fees and transfers to/from host school, where applicable
• excursion supervision (one teacher for every 20 students)
• farewell ceremony and exchange of gifts
• participation certificate for each student for visits longer than two days
• one adult for every 10 students is free of charge

Airport transfers are not included

Group size

• minimum group size is 15 students
• large groups may be hosted by two or more schools

Age

• students must be at least 10 years of age

Duration

• from half day to 10 weeks

• during New South Wales school term

Homestay

Homestay for student groups can be arranged on request.
Homestay families provide:

• accommodation for one or two students (single or double placement cannot be guaranteed)
• three meals a day
• transport to and from school

Adult accommodation is not included.

costs are based on:

• size of the group
• number of days
• location of school
• study tour itinerary
