Study Tours for Student Groups
What type of educational study tours are there in NSW?
DEC International provides a variety of study tours that meet the needs and interests of students. Typical student study tours:
- General Study Tour – Student
- Intensive English Study Tour – Student
- Combined Intensive English and General Study Tour – Student
- Themed Study Tour – Student
- Introductory Study Tour – Student
How many students can take part in a study tour?
- Minimum group size is 15 students.
- Large groups may be hosted by two or more schools.
- Study tours longer than 4 weeks and less than 10 weeks can be arranged for smaller group
Is there a minimum age for students participating in a study tour?
- Yes, students must be at least 10 years of age.
How long can a study tour be?
- Study tours can be from half-a-day to 10 weeks.
When can a study tour be undertaken?
- Study tours can be undertaken during New South Wales school terms for General and Themed Study Tours.
- Intensive English Study Tours are available only during New South Wales school vacations.
Where can we go in NSW on a study tour?
- Choose from schools located throughout the state of New South Wales including Sydney and other cities such as Wollongong, Newcastle, Bathurst, Orange, Dubbo, Tamworth, Lismore or other regional centres.

How much do study tours cost?
Cost is based on:
- size of group
- number of days
- location of host school
- study tour itinerary
Bookings should be made through a registered Study Tours agent.
Can we organise sightseeing and excursions as part of a study tour?
Schools can arrange activities such as:
- Visits to native Australian animal parks
- Bush walks
- Bush dances
- Boomerang throwing
- BBQs (barbeques)
- Visits to Environmental Education Centres – specialist centres for teaching about the Australian environment
Can homestay be arranged for students?
Yes, homestay for students can be arranged by schools on request. Homestay accommodation:
- allows students to experience daily life in Australia
- helps students practise their English with their homestay family
- provides carefully chosen families from the local school community
Homestay families provide:
- accommodation for one or two students (single or double placement cannot be guaranteed)
- three meals a day
- transport to and from school each day
Adult accommodation is not included.
How can a study tour be arranged?
- All Study Tours bookings should be made through a registered Study Tours agent.
Study Tours for Adult Groups
What type of educational study tours are there for adult groups in NSW?
A range of study tours are available and include:
- General Study Tours – Adults
- Teacher Observation Study Tour – Adults
- Teacher Observation and Intensive English Study Tour – Adults
- Themed Study Tours – Adults
Each study tour is customised to provide a well-balanced program of educational activities, cultural and sightseeing experiences.
Is there a minimum number of participants for a study tour?
- Yes, a minimum group size is 10 participants for General, Teacher Observation or Themed Study Tours; and
- There is a minimum group size of 15 participants for Teacher Observation and Intensive English Study Tours
How long can a study tour be?
- A study tour can be from half-a-day to 4 weeks
When can a study tour be undertaken?
Study tours can be undertaken as follows:
- school visits can be arranged during New South Wales school academic terms
- other visits can be arranged all year (except on New South Wales public holidays)
Where in NSW can we visit as part of a study tour?
- Choose from schools located throughout the state of New South Wales including Sydney and other cities such as Wollongong, Newcastle, Bathurst, Orange, Dubbo, Tamworth, Lismore or other regional centres.

- Bookings should be made through a registered Study Tours agent.
Can I contact a school directly to arrange a study tour?
- No. All bookings must come to DEC International through a registered Study Tours agent. Agents or study tour groups should NOT contact schools directly to book a program. Contact details will be made available upon confirmation of the booking.
