Please note: a parent must live with their child while the child is enrolled in a primary school from Kindergarten to Year 4. Children in Year 5 and Year 6 must live with a parent or direct relative.
NSW government primary schools are all coeducational schools (boys and girls in the same classes).
Primary school education in NSW takes 7 years. It begins in Kindergarten and ends in Year 6.

Any time up to the start of Term 4 of the academic year.

- Satisfactory progress in previous school studies
- English language
Years 1 to 5
- No minimum requirements
Year 6
- Students 12 years of age or over may need to do an Intensive English course before they start the Year 6 course.
Accommodation and Welfare
Primary school students in Kindergarten to Year 4 must have a parent living with them at all times.
Students in Year 5 and Year 6 may live with a parent or direct relative.
