Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
Health insurance, called Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), is compulsory for international students studying in Australia. OSHC covers you for certain medical costs if you need to visit a doctor or go to hospital whilst you are studying in Australia.
Unless you let us know that you have already arranged OSHC, DEC International Students Centre will arrange standard OSHC cover for you with Medibank Private. We will invoice you for the insurance premium along with your tuition fees.
In 2012, the cost for standard OSHC is A$429 per year per single student.

Health cover cards will either be delivered to you directly from Medibank Private or via DEC International Students Centre. This process may take a few weeks. If a student needs medical attention before they receive their membership card, they should pay for the service and keep all receipts. They can claim a refund from Medibank Private when issued with their card.
You should check the policy carefully in advance, including the details of what is covered. Optional extra cover is available at an additional fee.
Serious medical problems should be declared on your application form and taken care of before you come to Australia, as standard OSHC generally does not cover pre-existing medical conditions.

Payments, reviews and refunds
Payment timing
Depending on the student's start date, the following tuition fees will be invoiced:

| Term 1 | OSHC plus EITHER the whole year's tuition fee OR half the year's tuition fee with the balance payable by the end of Term 1 |
| Term 2 | OSHC plus the tuition fee for the rest of the year |
| Term 3 | OSHC plus the tuition fee for the rest of the year |
| Term 4 | OSHC plus the tuition fee for Term 4 of the current year plus the tuition fees for the following half-year |
| Continuing students | Tuition fees for the following year by the end of Term 4 OR Half year fees by the end of Term 4 and the balance due by the end of Term 1 |
Review of Fees
NSW Department of Education and Communities reserves the right to review its fees. If the tuition fees are increased you will be required to pay the new fees as they are introduced.
