How to Apply

1. Before you apply

  • Make sure that the student's academic results and English level meet the entry requirements for the selected school program. If you do not meet the English competency requirements, you can choose to study an intensive English language program before you start at school.
  • Choose a school where you wish to study. We recommend that you nominate at least two schools on the application form. To find a school, click here.

2. Complete an application form

  • Download and fill out an application form (PDF 234kb)
  • Attach the following documents:
    • Certified copies of birth certificate and/or passport pages with personal details
    • Certified copies of school reports for the last two years with certified English translations
    • Two recent passport-sized photographs
    • Certified English assessment results
    • If the nominated guardian is a DIAC approved relative, proof of identity (certified copies of Australian Citizenship Certificate or passport and visa) and a signed Guardian/Carer declaration form should be included.
  • Sign the application form – a parent must sign the application form unless the student is over 18 years of age
  • If you wish to pay the application fee by credit card, please complete the Credit Card details section and fill-in the relevant amount: A$110 (non-refundable and GST inclusive) or A$150 (non-refundable and GST inclusive) for a package course of intensive English with a TAFE English Language Centre plus NSW government school program.

A 'certified copy' is a copy of the original document which has been signed and dated by the organisation that issued the original document, a government official, Public Notary or Justice of the Peace, confirming that they have sighted the original. Faxed versions of certified copies are not acceptable.

3. Submit the application

Return the application form, certified documents and bank cheque or money order for the application fee (if applicable) to the address below:

Student Visa Holders MUST NOT apply directly to the school.

3. Processing

  • Be patient. It will take us a few days or sometimes up to a week in busy periods after we receive your application to process it and respond to you.
  • If your application is successful, we will send you an offer of a place (Letter of Offer). It will come with an invoice statement that advises you about fee payments, information about your student visa application and, if you have requested it, airport pickup and accommodation fees.

4. Accept your offer

To accept the offer, pay the fees and charges listed on the invoice. Details of how to pay are also included with your offer:

    • Payment must be made in Australian dollars at any Westpac Bank in Australia, by BPAY, by credit card (Visa or MasterCard), bank cheque, bank draft or postal money order.
    • Bank cheques, bank draft or postal money orders must be made payable to "NSW Department of Education and Training" and should be forwarded to:

  • Do not make your payment into an agent's account or any other account.
  • The Department of Education and Training will issue an official receipt either to the agent or directly to the student/parents

5. Apply for your visa

  • When we receive your payment we will issue you with an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCOE) form. You use this document to apply to the Australian Embassy or Consulate offshore, or the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) in Australia, for your student visa that allows you to enter or stay in Australia.
